SRI LANKA ~ Kalutara Dagoba ~

Kalutara is a large town in Kalutara District, Western Province.

The dagoba was built in the 1960s on the site of a former Portuguese fort. The white 3 storeys-high dagoba is believed to be the only Buddha Stupa in the world which is entirely hollow. Inside the hollow area of the dagoba, a smaller dagoba occupies the centre with its pinnacle soaring towards the dome of the larger one that covers it.

Its interior contains 74 murals, each depicting a different aspect of the Buddha's life.
